Goodmawe Bears was established in June 2007, when due to health problems, owner Gary Maw, was forced to think about his future employment. Having spent decades of his life dedicated to security work and working alongside celebraties, he was facing a life changing double transplant operation and wanted to set up a business that would be enjoyable, and would be suitable to retire into. Gary came up with the idea of opening up a collectors teddy bear shop in Hull city centre. This idea was inspired by his partner life long passion for bears, and as a serious collector she had taken Gary into many bear shops over the years and her enthusiasm for these highly collectable pieces had rubbed off on him

Assessing the local areas he realised that with the nearest shops being a distance away, there was a market for one in Hull. Then Goodmawe Bears was born.

In the 2 years of it trading we have seen the shop go from strength to strength, building up a substantial stock of bears from Steiff to local artist Ripingale Bears. These include a large selection of Hansa lifelike animals, Herman plush and mohair, Charlie Bears and Isabelle Lee Collection, Deans Limited Editions, Deb Canham Miniatures, Brigitt Rive Gollies and the most recent edition or Melissa and Doug Plush Toys

The Shop is a wonderland filled with an array of life-sized animals and also have a 6ft bear called Odin from the Charlie Bears Range. We have recently been granted the Gold Button Store status by Steiff along with being a Steiff Club Store after only 2 years of trading. We are also a Charlie Bears Best Friend Outlet and Deb Canham Club Store.
